Johannes joined the GER in June 2023 as a doctoral student. Before coming to Berlin, he earned a B. Sc. and an M. Sc. degree in Materials Science from RWTH Aachen University, he also completed an ERASMUS+ semester in Stockholm (Sweden) at Kungliga Tekniska högskolan. During his master's studies, Johannes focused on energy materials. Most notably, during his master's thesis, he worked on materials for Fe-air batteries. Continuing down the battery path he completed an internship at Voltfang GmbH, a startup focused on second-life applications of electric vehicle batteries. Within the ANaBatt project, Johannes is tasked with alkali-metal management in the anode. For this he is studying porous carbon materials as well as intermediary semi-liquid layers.
